Here are just two types of many. ![]() Lag hooks are installed by screwing into a pre-drilled hole that is smaller in diameter than the lag. Care should be taken to avoid injuring the bark. ![]() In circumstances where dead-end hardware is not appropriate, eye bolts or threaded rods with amon-eye nuts may be used. Drop-forged eye bolts are considered slightly stronger than threaded rods used with amon-eye nuts. Once installed, the cable should be just taut. A cable that is too tight may put excessive stress on the wood fibers, result in more damage at the defect, or cause the hardware to pull out. The limbs may be brought closer together with ropes, or slings and a come-along. This will make the installation easier, and the cable should be taut when the limbs are released. If the cable is installed while the tree is in foliage, it should be tight enough that it will not be slack after the leaves have fallen. Dallas Arbor Tech is the Arborist for you.
