When is the best time of year for pruning trees?

The best time to prune trees depends on the desired result.
- Growth is maximized if pruning is done just before the buds swell, in early spring.
- Crape Myrtle or Linden are best pruned in winter, prior to leaf emergence, or in the summer after bloom has occurred.
- Fruit trees should be pruned just after bloom.

Why is topping not recommended?

When you top a tree, you sever the places energy routed. The trees will form improper growth on decayed joints, thus creating a problem on the next monsoon or windy day. Topping will virtually stunt the trees growth & the tree will never be structurally sound again.
